MARYVILLE, Tenn. (May 15) Blount Motorsports drivers Donald and Tommy both suffered mechanical problems in the WoO Outlaw 50 at Smoky Mountain Speedway Saturday night.
Donald finished fourth in the first heat, started the feature in 10th and was running sixth toward the end of the 50-lap event when the engine started to run hot and he pulled into the pits. He was scored 22nd in the final rundown.
“We had problems with the motor running hot last weekend. We took it up to Vic Hill and he put new head gaskets on it. We figured we were good to go but it didn’t work out the way,” said David. “The car was all right, but not great and Donald did a good job and would have had a decent finish if the engine hadn’t over heated.”
Tommy made the race by finishing sixth in the second heat and started 17th on the grid. When his drive shaft went he was the first one out of the event and was credited with a 25th place finish.
“This was one of our older drive shafts and we have no idea what caused it to fail. We haven’t had much in the way of mechanical problems this year and to have both cars knocked out of the same race will get you scratching your head,” concluded David.
Next weekend will see the Blount Motorsports Team heading to Crossville Speedway Friday night for a Spring Nationals event. Then on Saturday the team will head north to Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY for a 10k to win Iron-Man race.
