MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Aug.) This was the 13th season for the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals Series. It was the 11th year that Blount Motorsports has competed in the series with Tommy winning it in 2009. And it was the 3rd year that Donald had been behind the wheel of the BMS Rocket.

In Donald’s three-year tenure this year’s Southern Nationals was the best. He and the team won three consecutive races, was fast qualifier three times, and had five top five, three top 10 finishes with no DNFs. They finished third in the points, two points behind the second place finisher.

“Although not as successful as we would have liked this year’s Southern Nationals was a success. It was very productive and we are not disappointed by any stretch of the imagination,” said David. “People don’t realize how young our team is and they did a great job. I am really pleased and proud of everyone during this year’s grind.”

The Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals Series scheduled 11 races at 11 different race tracks in four different states for 2017. The first two races resulted in two top 10 finishes for the team and before race three at 411 Motor Speedway the team made some aggressive changes to the race car. The next three races resulted in three consecutive wins.

“Before the race at 411 David got with Mark Richards at Rocket. We made some very aggressive changes to the car and it really paid off,” grinned Donald. “You can’t say enough about the Vic Hill engine, the Rocket Chassis and the job the team did because we ran the whole series with the same car and the same engine.”

There were two rainouts in this year’s Summer Nationals so there were nine races instead of the 11 scheduled events.

“David, Donald, Taylor and everyone on the team did a great job. We were right there for the whole series and if it hadn’t been for a flat tire here and a lapped car crash there who knows,” said Larry. “We really need to thank our sponsors and our fans for all of their support and give special thanks to Mark Richards at Rocket and Vic Hill at Vic Hill Race Engines. Without all of their support we would just be going around in circles.”
