MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 13) In the first three races of this year’s Georgia/Florida Speedweeks Donald and the Boys finished 11th, 12th and 15th and although that isn’t where they wanted to be it still wasn’t as bad as it looks.
On Friday night for the Lucas opener they were the fastest qualifier in the second group, finished second in their heat and 11th in the feature. On Saturday night they qualified eighth in their group, ran third in their heat and finished 14th. At the UMP race at North Florida Speedway they qualified third in their group, started eighth and after 20 laps took it to the pits. They were scored 15th in the final rundown.
“It was not as bad as it looks on paper,” said David Bryant on the way back to the shop to put a rear clip on the car. “We qualified good, made all three races and even though we tore up the rear clip in the heat on Saturday night we still got it done.
Sure we would like to win every race and I’m not saying we are happy with our finishes, but when you look at the quality of the fields at Golden Isles, the teams that were taking provisionals and the ones that didn’t make the races we aren’t hanging our heads either. Besides we left there eighth in Lucas Oil points.”
After a quick trip back to the shop in Maryville for a new rear clip and body on the car, McIntosh and the team will be at Bubba Raceway Park for the Lucas Oil event on Sunday. Then its over to Volusia Speedway Park for the next five or six races.
