MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 20) Mimicking the rest of the season the SAS King of the Mountain, two-days of racing at Smoky Mountain Speedway had it ups and downs for Blount Motorsports drivers Donald McIntosh and Tommy Kerr.
On Friday night Donald was fast qualifier, started on the outside front row and finished a disappointing sixth. Tommy would start ninth and finish fifth. So all in all it was not a bad night.
“The bottom is where I like to run at Smoky Mountain and on Friday night the bottom was quick,” grinned Tommy. “We had a good night, had some fun and came home with a top five.”
“We missed the setup on the car a little bit. The night wasn’t a total disaster, but it could of and should of been a whole lot better,” said Donald.
Saturday night Donald, although he didn’t qualify as well, felt like he had a better car. Then electrical problems sidelined him at the beginning of the race and he finished 23rd. Tommy was plagued with a carb stumble that put a damper on any hope of moving up in the field. After starting 12th on the grid, he finished 16th.
“It has been one of those years when it seems like the car is either on or off with nothing much in between. We will see if we can’t find some consistency these last few races of the season,” concluded David.
The next race on the schedule is the Fall Nationals Tarheel 50 at Tri-County Race Track. The team might add the CLASH race at Lavonia Speedway before heading to Senoia for another Fall Nationals event on Saturday night.
