MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 10) For the last 15 years the end of the UMP Summernationals has signaled the start of Ray Cook’s Southern Nationals. The Southern Nationals gives the southern Dirt Late Model racers a taste of what the Mid-West racers deal with in the Summernationals aka the Hell Tour.

“It doesn’t compare to the Summernationals as they race about three times as many races as we do in the Southern Nationals, but it is still a grind, a hot one and you get a whole lot of racing in a short period of time,” said David. “When it is over you and your equipment are beat up and worn out, but its worth it.”

The variety of different race tracks, traveling to five states and racing back-to-back nights with the longest stretch being four nights in a row is not for everyone, but the Blount Motorsports Team is looking forward to it.

“We seem to race better in the summer than we do in the spring and the Southern Nationals seems to lead to the team making giant strides and running better,” said Donald. “You spend a couple weeks racing at 11 different race tracks and for those two weeks it is nothing but racing. You can find out a whole lot of things about the car, yourself and lots of other stuff.”

“It seems like after spending two weeks of racing pretty much one right after another the team tightens up. We are a better team and our finishes for the rest of the season show it,” continued David. “If you like racing and to do what we do you have to really like racing, this is a fun two weeks. To run better for the rest of the season is a bonus. Its my favorite time of the year!”

The action kicks of this Saturday night at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA and ends on July 27th in Tazewell, TN at the ultra fast Tazewell Speedway.
