MARYVILLE, Tenn (Mar. 3) Every trip to a new track is a learning experience and that was what it was for Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports Team when they made their first appearance at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC. If a new track was not enough it was the first time out for the new Rocket Chassis not to mention only the fourth race of the new season.“There was a lot of new this past weekend,” commented Tommy with a shake of his head. “New car, new track, and a new way to qualify. Group qualifying is interesting to say the least.”Kerr was running third in the consi with three laps to go when Jeff Smith passed him. The late race pass put Smith in the main event as the top three were the only cars to transfer. “We missed the main by one spot in the consi. Jeff (Smith) was better than we were and he made the main and we watched,” continued Tommy. “It is frustrating and disappointing, but we keep getting better each time we go to one of these big shows and that is what keeps us coming back.”Next up for Kerr and the BMS team is the Southern All Star Ernest Young Memorial at North Georgia Speedway on Saturday March 8. The team has done well as the high-banked third mile clay oval in Chatsworth, Ga. and is looking forward to the race. The next day they will be racing the Advance Thunder event at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN.
