MARYVILLE, Tenn (May 29) Finishing second in each of the final three races of the 10 race Spring Nationals Series, Billy clinched the title for his second series championship since joining Blount Motorsports. With the Spring Nationals Championship in the fold all eyes are on the Southern National Series in July.
“We ran good, finished every race and didn’t tear anything up and that is what it takes to win championships,” said David. “We still need to improve on our program for the racing in Kentucky and we would have liked to win a couple more of the races, but we are very pleased with everything.
I need to mention Vic Hill again. We have been waiting since March on the parts we need so Vic can build us a new engine and Vic lent us his personal engine. We used his engine for the last eight races and without it I doubt we would have won the championship.”
For Billy, who was the Southern All Star Championship in 2011, this is the second series championship he has won since joining Blount Motorsports.
“I really feel like I have come a long way since joining Blount Motorsports. David (Bryant) and B.J. (Hillman) not only give me a great race car to drive they have helped me become a better driver,” said Billy with a smile. “When you are given the opportunity to drive at this level it is really nice to be able to contribute.”
After finishing second in the Spring and Southern Nationals last year the team set out to move up one position and take home the two championships this year.
“I really like these miniseries. They are fun to run and they don’t drag on for the whole season,” continued Billy. “You never know in this business, but we have the car, the team and the ability to win the Southern Nationals too and that is what we are shooting for.”
Tonight Billy and the BMS Team will be at Tazewell for the Lucas Oil event and on Saturday night at Smoky Mountain for the Ultimate Late Model show.
