MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 4) Donald was gunning for his third consecutive Hangover victory at 411 Motor Speedway on Saturday, when a broken axle knocked him out of contention.

Donald qualified first in the first group, lined up on the pole and led the first 12 laps of the 40-lap New Years event when Ray Cook passed him for the lead. Seven laps later McIntosh would pit with a broken right rear axle. He was scored 18th in the final tally.

“We had a good car and although Ray (Cook) had gotten by us the race was a long way from being over when the axle broke,” Said crew chief David Bryant. “Seeing how tomorrow is 2017 I don’t think they can add another race this year so this winds up the 2016 season. All in all we had a good season and where we are as a team right now we are really looking forward to a strong and better season in 2017.”

The next event on the schedule is the Ice Bowl at Talladega Short Track this weekend. The team plans to watch the weather forecast and make a final decision whether or not to make the trip today or tomorrow.

“We just picked up a new chassis from Rocket and if the weather is going to be really bad over the weekend we have plenty to do here at the shop. February and the Florida/Georgia Speedweeks will be here before you know it,” concluded Bryant.
