MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 6) After winning the Spring Nationals Championship Billy and the Blount Motorsports Team thought they had a good shot at winning the Southern Nationals Championship. Losing their primary motor in the second race of the series put them way behind, but they were able to come back and score a third place finish in the point race which was enough to give them the overall point championship for both series.

“After the second race we found ourselves way behind with an underpowered backup motor under the hood for the next eight races,” said David. “And on top of being down on power every time we were able to get a little momentum going something else would come along and derail us again.

With that said we were able to come back and finish third in the points which gave us the overall point championship and enabled us to pick up the $5,053 bonus. It could have been worse, way worse.”

Running 10 races in 13 days at 10 different tracks in four states is a grind when you are competitive, but when you are not competitive it is not only a grind it is no fun at all.

“Under the circumstances I am really proud of everyone and how we all kept grinding. We made every show and raced every race, but we were never able to hit our stride. We were never really all that competitive,” continued David. “We have a new motor coming and we have time to put everything back together and get ready to go again. Every year we run our best after the Southern Nationals and hopefully that will be true again this year.”

Blount Motorsports will take this weekend off with the next race being the Southern Nationals Bonus race at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday August 16. Then on the following Thursday, August 21, it will be the Lucas Oil Scorcher at Volunteer Speedway.
