MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 29) Although BMS drivers Billy and Tommy didn’t take the brass ring in the Inaugural Tennessee State Championships at Smoky Mountain Speedway it was a good weekend for the team.

In the Friday night event Ogle set a new track record when he ran a 14.86 second lap on the 4/10-mile clay oval. He started on the front row with Jonathan Davenport. Davenport took the early lead, ran the outside groove and led the entire race with Billy right behind. While Davenport and Billy were running one and two Tommy was moving up from his sixth place starting spot to post a third place finish.

“We had a good car and was just as fast as Davenport, but we never could do anything with him. It was one of those deals where he (Davenport) was going to have problems or make a mistake for us to get by him. And he never did,” said Billy.

On Saturday night Kerr won the first heat, started on the pole and was running second when the ignition messed up and the engine started popping.

“When the engine started missing I didn’t know what it was and I didn’t want to do any further damage so I got off the gas and headed to the pits. We switched to the back up ignition and that cured the problem,” said Tommy who ended up 20th.

While Tommy was experiencing ignition problems Ogle who had started 11th was working his way up to score a fifth place finish.

“It wasn’t the weekend we would liked to have had, but it wasn’t half as bad as it could have been,” said David. “We will regroup and have both cars back at Smoky Mountain on Saturday night for the SRRS event.”
