MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Apr. 5) Billy notched his first win of the season and his career first Spring Nationals win at Smoky Mountain Speedway Saturday Night. Tommy finished 11th in the event.
Billy was running second and that enabled him to take advantage of race leaders Chris Madden’s altercation with a lapped car and the wall on lap 16. He took the lead and was never seriously challenged during the remaining 34 laps.
“Although qualifying third is not that bad I left three tenths out on the track. That is how good the car was tonight,” said Billy. “In the feature it took me a little while to see where on the track the car was best and when I found that I was able to get up to Madden before he had his problems. After Madden was out it was just a matter of keeping my concentration. David (Bryant) and BJ (Hillman) have figured this new car out and it is really good.”
“Billy’s car was good Saturday night, but Tommy’s not so much,” said David Bryant. “We’ve been chasing the new car and finally got that figured out, but it took time away from getting Tommy’s car where it should be. Between now and the next race for Tommy we will have things caught up and something for him to drive.”
The BMS team will be racing Thursday night in the Spring Nationals event at Tri-County Race Track. It is still undecided whether the team races the Duck River WoO show on Friday night. That decision will be make Friday morning. Saturday the team will race in the WoO show at Tazewell Speedway.
