MARYVILLE, Tenn. (April 28) Billy and the Boys had it all together Saturday night as they dominated the Southern All Star Event at Smoky Mountain Speedway. Ogle set fast time, started on the pole and led 39 of the 40-lap feature without a serious challenge.
“The car was really good and the track was to my liking. It had a good bottom in it so I could use all the horse power,” grinned Billy. “I’m communicating better with B.J. and David and with what we learned in Kentucky last week they put a really good race car under me.”
Billy and the team have gotten off to slow starts in previous seasons and starting the season after Florida this year they didn’t know what to expect. This win was the second in April and last year Billy’s second win didn’t come until August.
“We have had our share of early season problems, but the car is coming in really well. Hopefully being as dominate as we were here tonight will give us some momentum going into the final three Spring National races,” said David.
We need to give a special thanks to Vic Hill. We are having problems getting all the parts together we need for Vic to build us a new engine and while we are waiting he let us use his engine. No telling where we would be if he hadn’t helped us out.”
While Billy was having a near perfect night Tommy’s night was the exact opposite. After qualifying eight he and Josh Putnam got together on the start of the 40-lap feature. The end result was Tommy flipping down the back straight. Putnam jumped the clay berm and ended up in the infield. Tommy was out for the night while Putnam was able to continue.
Kerr was bruised and sore, but basically unhurt. The car will not require a trip to the jig, but like the driver needs a lot of love and attention.
