MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 23) When the green flag fell to start the 10th running of the Lucas Oil Scorcher at Volunteer Speedway defending Scorcher Champion Billy Ogle Jr. lost the drag race for the top spot to fellow front row starter Chris Madden. Although he was able to close on the Gray Court, SC driver during the race the only real chance he had to mix it up with leader Madden was negated by a caution flag and Ogle had to settle for second.

David Bryant commented after the race that, “Madden was quicker on the start and the restarts than we were. It took a long green for our car to come in and the one time Billy (Ogle) had good shot at him a caution came out. Madden had a good car, drove a good race and would have been tough to pass, but I would have loved to see what would have happened without that caution.”

Trevor Bayne, driving a car he rented from BMS for the race, finished third in his heat to advance to the feature. He worked his way up to ninth before a minor altercation and a spin put him in the rear of the pack. He worked his way back to finish 12th.

“I never really understood the pressure these NASCAR drivers have put on them by the fans. The fans think the only reason that Trevor (Bayne) was at the track is so they can see him, talk to him and get his autograph. They don’t realize that this is his job and when he is in the pits he is in his office trying to do his job,” continued Bryant. “Trevor is a nice young man. He not only did a great job with the race car, he also handled the fans really well.”

The next event for Billy and the BMS team will be the Southern All Star race at Tazewell Speedway on September 1.
