MARYVILLE, Tenn (May 12) What looked like a win for Billy in the Spring Nationals event at Duck River Raceway Park on Thursday night turned into a second place finish when Dale McDowell made the pass to take the lead and the win.

Billy took the lead from fast qualifier Clint Smith on lap 18 of the 40-lap feature and using the low groove held that lead for the next 20 laps. McDowell using the high groove was able to make the pass for the lead and the win with two laps to go.

“There was a caution with eight to go and at that time Dale (McDowell) was struggling in the high groove. We signaled Billy to stay low. The upper groove cleaned up and Dale sailed right on by and took the win,” said David shaking his head. “We zigged when we should’ve zagged, but hind sight is always 20/20.”

The car was good and came out of the race without a scratch. Plus they added to their series point lead with the two rained out events at Boyd’s and Dixie remaining to be run. The team is getting ready for the WoO Ole Smoky Moonshine Mountain 50 at Smoky Mountain Speedway this Saturday night before finishing up the two Spring Nationals Series the following weekend.

“We are really pleased with how good the car and the team are working right now,” continued David. “We are looking forward to this weekends race and then going to Boyd’s and Dixie for the last two Spring Nationals events.”
