MARYVILLE, TN (Feb. 1) Blount Motorsports will open the 2011 season as a two car team. Billy Ogle Jr. will team with Tommy Kerr and drive the second BMS Late Model in events at Screven Motor Speedway, Golden Isle Speedway and Volusia Speedway Park.
“We are excited about having a two car team. If we can find the sponsorship to support it we would like to run both cars for the full season,” said Larry Garner one of the three BMS owners. “We are committed to run the events in Georgia and at Volusia Speedway Park with both cars. After that we will just have to see how things work out.”
Ogle, a second generation East Tennessee racer, in recent years had driven for Mike Kittrell Racing. When Kittrell decided to not field a car in 2011, Ogle was looking for a ride. He drove one of the BMS Late Models in the SAS Gobbler at Cleveland Speedway in November and will be in the same car to open the 2011 season.
“This is a great team and I am really excited to be a part of it. I have not been this ready to go racing this early in the season for a long time,” grinned Ogle. “I have always enjoyed racing against Tommy over the years and look forward to being on the same team with him.”
David Bryant will crew chief the 4T that will be driven by Kerr and B.J. Hillman will crew chief the 201 driven by Ogle. Both drivers and crew chiefs will pool information and work together as a team both on and off the track.
“Billy and I have known each other and raced against each other forever,” said Kerr, who not only drives for but is one of the BMS three partners. “I think it will be good for the team, but with the work that is involved it won’t be an easy deal.”
Blount Motorsports enjoys sponsorship from Arnold Trucking, Bearden Oil Company, Blount Excavating, Cherokee Millwright, GEOServices, Insurance Partners, Massey Electric, Stowers (CAT) Machinery Corp. and Wine and Spirits Cellar.
The race cars are Rocket chassis powered by Custom Race Engines with Dyer’s Top Rods and Gibbs Oil. The shocks are from Öhlins, chassis and suspension components from TWM, Sunoco Race Fuel from Bearden Oil and tires from Hoosier Racing Tires.
