MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 13) After nine runner up finishes and just one win in 2012 Billy was wondering if he was ever going to win another race, but the combination of a fast race car and a flawless driving performance provided him with his second win of the season and first at Smoky Mountain Speedway.

“I know that there are at least 20 cars finishing behind you when you finish second, but after finishing second nine times this season and only winning one I was beginning to wonder if we were ever going to win another one,” grinned Billy. “It has been a long time since we won that first one and we finally got number two. Maybe we can get a couple more before the years out.”

Delays in Saturday night’s race program put everything behind and in order not to run afoul with the track’s midnight curfew the track and series officials decided to forego heat races. Billy, who recorded the fastest lap, started on the pole and led all 35 laps making it look easy as he strolled to victory lane.

“I knew if we didn’t win tonight it would be my fault because the car was that good,” continued Billy. “All I had to do was drive a good race and not make any mistakes in order to win tonight and I am pleased I was able to do that. David, B.J and everyone at Blount Motorsports works so hard on the cars and they want to win as much as I do. It was a good night for all of us.”

Tommy had mechanical problems in qualifying and started the feature dead last. He powered his way through the field and posted a ninth place finish.

On Friday night for the SRRS event at 411 Motor Speedway Billy set a new track record and finished second. Tommy finished eighth.
