Maryville, Tenn. (Mar. 19) In their first race since Florida Billy and the Blount Motorsports team scored a sixth place finish in the 11th Annual Spring Thaw at Volunteer Speedway.

With rain in the area the track was slick and one groove with the 22 car starting field starting as they had qualified. Billy qualified eight, started eighth and was able to pass two cars to finish sixth.

“Volunteer was not an easy place to pass Saturday night. This is the first time we have had the new Rocket on a slick track and we were not exactly where we wanted to be with the car,” said Billy who was able to get under fifth place finisher Ray Cook on a couple of occasions. “With the quality of the field and everything else involved we were not over joyed with the evening, but not really upset either.”

The team will spend some time this week putting more laps on the new Rocket before heading to Cleveland County for the Ultimate Super Late Model Series event this Saturday night. This will be the first of three consecutive Ultimate Series events for the team with a double header at Boyd’s and North Georgia Speedways the following weekend.
