MARYVILLE Tenn. (Aug. 3) Billy and the Blount Motorsorts Team ran all 10 of the 2012 Southern National events and came away third in points a scant 12 points behind second place Mike Marlar.

When you normally race once or twice a weekend it is not often you get to spend a thirteen-day period running 10 races at 10 different race tracks. It is not often you get a chance to eat, sleep and breathe racing for almost two weeks.

“We went into the series with every intention of trying to win the championship, but we also realized that it would be a great opportunity to work together day in and day out as a team,” said David. “We were able to spend a lot of time together and get a better understanding of what exactly the car, driver and crew wanted and needed.

We ran good, but didn’t win the championship. We did however take some giant strides toward becoming a better and more competitive race team.”

Although they didn’t win a race they did score seven top five and three top 10 finishes. This put them third in points, 12 back of second place Mike Marlar and 56 behind champion Chris Madden.

“This was the first time I have been able to run consecutive races like that and I really enjoyed it,” said Billy. “We were able to really concentrate on racing, try different things with the race car and get better as a team. Although we didn’t tear up a car we had three right rears go down.

All and all it was a good couple of weeks with a lot of good racing, but a couple of wins would have made it a whole lot better.”

The team will head to Volunteer Speedway tomorrow night for the SRRS event and then the next weekend run the SRRS double header at 411 and Smoky Mountain.
