MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 29) With a Southern National Series win at Volunteer Speedway and a strong second place finish in the series finale at Tazewell Speedway on Saturday night Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports Team ended a winless streak that dated back to October of last year.Friday night at Volunteer Speedway Kerr took the lead on the first lap from his outside front row starting position. He never looked back and was never seriously challenged as he led flag to flag to take the win.“In racing, loosing streaks are all part of the game. When you are in a bad streak you can talk about leaving the race track with a whole race car being as good as a win. Or a good top five being as good as a win and all that kinda stuff,” grinned Kerr. “Bottom line is the only thing as good as a win is a win.”On Saturday night the team traveled to Tazewell Speedway for the last of 10 races in the Southern Nationals Series. Kerr qualified and started fourth and drove to the second spot behind Southern National’s defending and soon to be crowned 2008 champion Chris Madden. “When we got to Chris (Madden) the only way was for him to make a mistake or his car to break. He makes very few mistakes and nothing broke so we ran second,” continued Kerr. “We have been looking for the missing piece in our team and the addition of Gary Winger as crew chief seems to be it.Gary not only brings a lot of knowledge and experience to the team he has been a catalyst. His being a part of the team lets everyone else concentrate on what they do best. All of us, B.J., Kevin, BoBo, the driver, the boss and everyone involved is better for it.”The team with it’s new found energy and confidence will be racing back to back Advanced Thunder events this weekend. Friday night they will race at Wartburg Speedway and Saturday night at the Mountain Raceway in Maryville, TN.Blount Motorsports enjoys sponsorship from Blount Excavating, Stowers Machinery Corp., Kelso, Turner Industrial Supply, GEOServices, Cast Stone, Wine and Spirits Cellar, Insurance Partners, Explosive Specialists and Murphy’s Bobcat.
