MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 5) Billy and Tommy had a good night at Tazewell Speedway. Billy scored his third Southern All Star victory of the season taking the checkered in the 5th Annual Buddy Rogers Memorial. Tommy knocked the rust off and came from tenth to finish a strong third.
Last year after the Southern Nationals Billy and the BMS Team posted five consecutive wins. This year in three races since the Southern Nationals they have scored two wins and a second place finish.
“We get more focused when we are racing night after night during the Southern Nationals and that carries over to the races after the series is over,” said David. “If we can figure out how to get focused in April instead of August there is no telling what kind of season we can have.”
Billy was the fastest in practice, but he took a different line in qualifying and ended up starting fourth in the feature.
“We had a fast race car, but I made a bad decision in qualifying. I went low in one and two and ended up starting fourth,” said Billy. “After we took the lead Dave signaled me to stay high but watch the bottom. When I saw Vic’s (Hill) nose I knew it was time to get down on the bottom and that is what we did.
Starting in the middle of the pack Tommy was pleased with his third place run.
“With a tight car and a loose driver our qualifying run wasn’t much,” said Tommy who won a consi and started tenth. “The car was looser in the race and after a few laps the driver’s timing started coming back and it made for a good run. The car was really good and if I hadn’t knocked the right spoiler off we might have finished a bit better.”
