MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Mar. 18) Between part failures, a fire and chasing a new car the Blount Motorsports team has gotten off to a rough start in 2014. The back-to-back Spring Nationals Spring Thaw races at Volunteer were just what they needed to get the team headed in the right direction.

An errant fuel line in the first race of the season let to a fire and a part failure during the second race led to a lot of questions as they took the new car to Volunteer Speedway for the Spring Nationals double header.

On Friday night finished a disappointing 13th, but on Saturday night things were way better with Billy starting eighth and finishing fourth. Tommy, who didn’t race on Friday night, started 10th and finished ninth.

“We were really out to lunch on Friday night. The car wasn’t good, the driver was off his game a little bit and we really didn’t have a good night,” said David shaking his head. “We did figure out some things Friday night with the biggest being that this new car needed something different than the three cars before it.

On Saturday night we pretty much forgot about our baseline, made some pretty radical changes to the car and ended up with a way better car.”

Billy and the team will head to Boyd’s Speedway this weekend for the SAS Shamrock and will continue to see exactly what the new car likes. The following weekend will be at Tri-County Race Track and Smoky Mountain Speedway for another pair of Spring National events.

“We are really appreciative of the support Vic Hill has given us,” continued David. “Even though the motor problem we had at Smoky Mountain was no fault of his, he stepped up and lent us a motor for Volunteer.”
