MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 11) With the exception of all the rain the first half of this season and last season has been about the same for the Blount Motorsports Team. As last year’s Southern Nationals was the turning point last season the team has been gearing up for this years Southern Nationals.
“Although we take our racing very seriously, unlike the top touring teams, racing is not all we do. Our crew chiefs are both full time, but the drivers and the rest of the team are part time,” said Larry Garner. “The only time we get a dose of concentrated racing like the big teams is during the Southern Nationals. This is the time when the team really jells and it gives us a boost for the rest of the season.”
The team recently debuted a new Rocket Chassis and in the one race and a day of practice the new car had worked well. This combined with working with Vic Hill on a new engine program has the team optimistic and looking forward to a good showing in the upcoming Southern Nationals that boasts 10 races at 10 different tracks in 12 days.
“With a new car, a new engine program and new equipment we are looking forward to Ray Cook’s 10 race grind this year,” said David Bryant. “The series gives us time to really focus on our program and concentrate on the little things that make such a big difference.”
The competition level on the Southern Nationals has been growing every year and this year, the ninth for the series, looks like it will be the best it has ever been.
“We keep hearing who will be running the series this year and it looks like the competition is going to be strong. That too will help our program,” concluded Bryant.
