MARYVILLE, Tenn. (May 13) Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports team were able to reverse their fortunes Friday night at Volunteer Speedway when they won the “TSC Cars” $3000 to win Super Late Model “Friday Night Fights” event.

For Kerr and the BMS team it was the first win of the season that ended a long and frustrating winless streak that started in February in Florida.

On Friday night Kerr started the Stowers Cat/Bearden Oil/GW Performance Rocket Impala SS on the outside of the second row for the 50-lap event. He took second on the first lap and when the leader, Rick Rogers spun to avoid tangled up lapped cars on lap six and went to the rear he took the lead. For the next 44 laps it was all Kerr with various drivers only getting close to the 4T when the field was under caution. The margin of victory was four car lengths over Chad Ogle.

“When you have a good car, a car that is capable of winning, but little things keep you from finishing let alone winning you start to feel snake bit. You start questioning everything including your ability to drive a race car,” said Kerr. “With the win hopefully we are back in a winning groove and will continue to have better results as the season goes along.”

“Just because you have all the pieces in place doesn’t mean you are going to win every race and we understand that. Understanding how fickle racing can be helps get you through some of the rough spots. But when you are sidelined week after week by things that shouldn’t break and things that shouldn’t happen your understanding will only go so far,” said team owner Larry Garner. “There are going to be rough spots and hopefully this one is over.”

This weekend Kerr and the BMS team will be racing two Tennessee Thunder races. On Friday night they will be at Wartburg Speedway and Saturday night at The Mountain. If there are weather problems at Wartburg on Friday night they will go to Volunteer Speedway.
