MARYVILLE, Tenn. (May 2) Casey Roberts and Tommy Kerr were both in action for Blount Motorsports in the WoO Tip Off Classic Weekend. Roberts would score a fourth place finish after starting ninth and Kerr finished 19th after starting 18th on Friday night.

In all fairness it is not fair to lump Roberts and Kerr together with Roberts running full time and Kerr who runs a limited schedule and was running his first race of the season, but for the sake of brevity that is what we are going to do.

On Saturday night for the second consecutive $10,000 to win event Roberts and Kerr’s qualifying efforts were not all that wonderful. Kerr started 12th in the feature and Roberts 17th. When the checkered flag flew Roberts came across the line in 11th and Kerr 13th.

“Casey qualified well and came home with a strong fourth place finish. It was a good outing for him. Tommy was trying to shake off some winter rust and his qualifying run and feature racing reflected that,” said David Bryant. “Saturday night’s qualifying efforts saw Tommy get better and Casey get worse. Then the track blacked over and locked down about five laps into the race and that is not a good thing when you are starting mid-pack or worse. With that said Casey moved up six places on Saturday night, one more than Friday night.”

“Qualifying is so important and on Friday night we qualified better than we did on Saturday night. And Friday we came home fourth and that wasn’t all that bad,” said Roberts. “Saturday night we started eight places behind our Friday night start and with the track rubbered up early we really weren’t going anywhere.”

“I wasn’t happy with what I did in the two races, but I wasn’t that unhappy either. I’ll bet I was the only one in the field that this was their first race of the year,” said Kerr. “I made and finished both races and came home with a car that didn’t have a scratch on it. That isn’t all that bad if you think about it.”

This Friday night the team will head for the Lucas Oil event at Tazewell. It is still up in the air whether or not the team will make the trip to Florence for the Lucas show on Saturday night.
