MARYVILLE, Tenn (July 15) Casey countered a poor qualifying run and a 14th place starting position with a strong run and a fifth place finish in the Southern Nationals opener at Wythe Raceway.
After qualifying sixth in the second group Casey started third and finished fourth in the third heat. Starting 14th in the feature he would stay out of trouble and work his way up a fifth place finishing position.
“It seems like if we are good qualifying we are not so good in the race and vice versa. What we need to do is have a night where we run like we are capable of running all night,” said David. “This is the best Casey has run here, so we are carrying a little momentum as we go to tracks he is really familiar with, likes and has done well on.
Although the Southern Nationals’ 11 races in 14 days can be a grind it is also a time when things can come together for the team.
“You are going from one track to the next and everything is right there race after race. It gives you a chance to really get into it and good things can come out of it,” concluded David.
After taking today off the Southern Nationals head to Volunteer Speedway on Monday night and 411 Motor Speedway on Tuesday night.
