MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 12) Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports team continue to venture further from their East Tennessee racing roots. They are spending more time at bigger events in different parts of the country. The end result from these moves will find the team being competitive at the top level of Dirt Late Model racing.

When Kerr and the team started racing the national traveling series around home and then started to venture farther a field, there were a lot of missed shows. With the missed shows came disappointment, but there was also a lot of learning taking place.

“At first it was real frustrating. You are going to tracks you have never seen before and racing with guys that have been racing on this level for years. You have to get to know what the different drivers will do. What drivers you can trust and what drivers you can’t,” said Kerr. “But the more we raced these races the more we learned and the better things have gotten.”

As they continued to learn they started spending less time on the trailer and more time in the main events.

“Last Saturday at Dixie we would have made the feature through our heat race, but Don O’Neal ran slap over us and we made it through the B-Main. On Sunday at Rome we won our B-Main and made it into the feature that way,” said Kerr. “We are getting a better grip on it and we keep moving forward.

If it were easy everyone would be doing it. It is taking us a little longer to get where we want to be, but we have a great team and there is no doubt we will get there.”

The next event on the Blount Motorsports schedule is the $50,000 to win Dirt Track World Championship at Lawrenceburg Speedway this Friday and Saturday.

Blount Motorsports enjoys sponsorship from Blount Excavating, Stowers Machinery Corp., Kelso, Turner Industrial Supply, GEOServices, Cast Stone, Wine and Spirits Cellar, Insurance Partners, Explosive Specialists and Arnold Trucking.
