MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Jun 22) Both Blount Motorsports drivers, Donald McIntosh and Tommy Kerr were on hand for the Lucas Oil event at Smoky Mountain Speedway Saturday night and although they didn’t set the world on fire they both made the race via the heat races and came home in eighth and 14th without a ding on either car.
Running a limited schedule Kerr charged to a fourth place finish in the second heat and started 15th. McIntosh finished fourth in the fourth heat and started 16th on the grid. When the checkered flag fell for the Ole Smoky Moonshine Special Kerr crossed the line in ninth and McIntosh in 14th.
“Tommy (Kerr) had a decent run especially when you consider that he is racing on a limited schedule and was out there against some of the best in the business that are racing full time,” said David Bryant. “Although he has five wins and won the Spring Nationals Championship so far this year Donald (McIntosh) is still a work in progress. We are trying to come up with the right set up for big cornered race tracks and we have not found it yet.
If you don’t win the race you at least want to have a decent run and bring home a couple of relatively undamaged race cars. And that is what we did tonight.”
This next weekend is an off weekend before heading to South Georgia for a race at Golden Isles Speedway on July 4th and another at Swainsboro Raceway on July 5.
