MARYVILLE, Tenn. (May 11) Everything about Donald’s night, when the WoO Late Models came to Smoky Mountain Speedway, was good except for the finish.
Donald qualified the Blount Motorsports Rocket/Vic Hill/Stower’s Cat entry fifth in the first group, finished third in the first heat, missed the redraw by one position and started ninth on the grid. Three laps into the WoO Mountain Outlaw 50, with some help, he spun the car in turn four. The car did a complete 360, never stopped, never made contact with another car or the wall, but did loose a number of spots. He would race back to a 13th place finish.
“The race track slicked off more than I thought it was going to and I missed the adjustment on the car,” said David. “Donald had a little help there early in the race when he spun, but he didn’t collect anyone and never stopped on the race track so he didn’t have to go to the rear.”
Tommy Kerr’s night was a long one as he didn’t qualify well and was behind the rest of the night and ended up not making the show.
“Its tough to race part time and jump into a WoO show. There is not a lot of forgiveness with this group,” continued David. “And like Donald I misread the track for Tommy too.”
Donald has a school commitment next weekend so Tommy will be racing at 411 Motor Speedway on Saturday night in the unsanctioned $3,000 to win Late Model event. The following weekend Donald will be back to race three consecutive Spring National shows, Friday night at Boyd’s, Saturday night at Dixie and Sunday at Rome Speedway.
