MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 28) Blount Motorsports drivers Donald and Tommy were on hand for the Southern Nationals Bonus Race presented by Food City Saturday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway. When the 40-lap feature was over Donald was second and Tommy 18th.
Donald, was second fast in the second qualifying group and started fourth on the grid. After getting bumped a time or two on the start he righted the ship and moved into second in the first 10 laps and shadowed eventual winner Chris Madden for the remainder of the event.
“The track was fast and you could run top or bottom, but fast is not always good for a lot of passing,” said David. “We had a good car, but we didn’t have anything for Madden.”
Tommy finished third in the first heat and started 15th. He moved up to and ran in the top 10 until his engine started running hot.
“The last two times out Tommy has had problems under the hood. He has got to feel like he is snake bit,” concluded David.
In memory of Maryville police officer Kenneth Moats who was killed in the line of duty on Thursday, Blount Motorsports had a Maryville Police badge with a mourning stripe on the door of McIntosh’s race car.
