MARYVILLE Tenn. (Jun 28) After starting fourteenth Donald took 33 laps to move through the field and take the lead in the Southern Nationals Bonus Series 12th Annual Iron-Man Classic. He would lead for 13 laps before being passed by Zack Dohm and Greg Johnson and relegated to a third place finish.

After a poor qualifying run Donald started seventh in the third heat and passed his way to fourth and a 14th place starting position in the feature.

“Donald was the last car out in qualifying and the track had slicked over. The combination of a car that wasn’t set up for the slick track and Donald’s inexperience with that type of track made it so his qualifying run wasn’t pretty,” said David. “We did some stuff to the car and it was a lot better in the heat and Donald started seventh and passed his way to fourth.

We had a bunch of stuff we were looking to try with the car and we basically threw everything at it. After all the changes we came up with a decent car for the feature.”

By lap 30 Donald had moved his way from 14th to fourth. The leaders were battling and got together in front of him. When the smoke had cleared he was in the lead and had lost some of the rear spoiler when trying to tip toe through the wreck.

“After the wreck Donald did a great job leading and holding his own without much of a spoiler. Our goal has been to move from top 10 finishes into top three finishes and on top of us learning a lot about the car and the track we accomplished our goal. We have to come back here, Richmond Raceway, in August for another 10K show and feel pretty good about that,” concluded David.
