MARYVILLE, Tenn. (May 26) Donald scored two wins and a fourth place finish to catch and pass Billy Ogle Jr. and win the 2015 Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Championship. It was the first Spring Nationals Championship for Donald and the second for Blount Motorsports.
On Friday night at Boyd’s Speedway Donald started on the front row and led all 40 laps to take win number one. On Saturday night at Dixie Speedway he again started on the front row, took the lead on the sixth circuit and led the remaining 34 laps for win number two. Rome Speedway was the third and final venue. Donald started fourth and finished fourth to win the Championship.
“What an awesome weekend,” exclaimed Donald. “We knew we had a chance to win the championship going in, but we didn’t have a clue if we would be able to make it happen.
We knew that in order to pull it off everything was going to have to be right and it was. The whole team really clicked from hot laps at Boyd’s to the checkered flag at Rome. We were all on the same page from start to finish.”
Donald was not the only one excited about the weekend’s events and winning the championship.
“It was an exciting weekend,” said David. “We were good on Friday night, right there on Saturday night and just a tick off on Sunday night. We have had some rough patches and there will be more, but things really came together when we needed them to.”
“I couldn’t be more pleased with how things went over the weekend,” said Larry. “Mathematically I knew we had a shot at the championship, but as good as Billy (Ogle) has been running and having to make up an 18 point deficit, I knew that everyone had to be on top of their game and they were.”
