MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 10) After a rough Southern Nationals, Donald McIntosh, Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports Team enjoyed a better outing at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday night.

McIntosh set fast time, started on the pole, led 34 laps and recorded a second place finish in the 40-lap 5k to win event. Tommy Kerr started ninth and finished seventh.

“We made a lot of changes to the car during the week and it preformed a whole lot better,” said David Bryant. “We aren’t where we want of be, but we are a whole lot closer than we were during the last three weeks.”

With the primary car getting a complete going over and a new deck after being caught up in a wreck at Tri-County Race Track, it was the backup car in action at Smoky Mountain.

“It was great that the changes we made on the backup car worked as well as they did and it bodes well when we get the primary car back into service, but we still need a little something,” concluded McIntosh.

For Kerr, who finished seventh, it was all about tire choice.

“We went with a hard right front and it was good early and I got up to fourth. When it gave out it wasn’t long before the right rear gave out and we couldn’t run on the bottom,” said Kerr with a shrug. “We didn’t tear nothing up and took a whole car back to the shop at the end of the night so it was a good night.”

The team is currently trying to decide if they will race Southern All Star race at Talladega Short Track or take the weekend off. Decision is suppose to be made Wednesday so check the Blountmotorsports.com/
