MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 19) Donald started 14th and finished fourth in the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals opener at Beckley Motorsports Park on Friday Night.
Qualifying 14th was disappointing but being able to come away with a fourth-place finish with a whole race car made for a decent run in the series opener.
“We did some testing before the Lucas race that was rained out, but never having been to Beckley before we don’t really know if we did ourselves any good or not,” said David. “Donald drove a good race and was able to come up with a good finish. The next two races at Volunteer and I-75 should give us a better idea of where we are at.”
The Beckley opener was the first of 12 series races to be held in a 15-day period. With Wythe Raceway raining out on Saturday the number of races is down to 11, but it is still a grind.
“If we can get a break in the weather and get the bulk of the next 11 races in we will have a better idea of what we are doing and what we need to do. You have these rough times in racing, but this one seems like it’s never gonna end,” concluded David.
Race number two is tonight at Volunteer Speedway followed by I-75 Speedway on Tuesday night.
