MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Mar. 14) Donald finished ninth in the Spring Nationals opening event, The Tennessee Tipoff, at Smoky Mountain Speedway. Tommy started and finished 18th.
Donald was fourth fastest in the second qualifying group where the top five times were faster that pole sitter Randy Weaver’s time in the first group. Just after taking the checkered flag in qualifying Donald smacked the wall doing major damage to the Massey Electric sponsored Rocket.
“The car was pretty much trashed after hitting the wall. We were able to cobble it together to run the heat race and then worked on it all day Saturday for the feature,” said David. “I am not sure what we missed, but the car wasn’t as good as it needed to be in the feature and our ninth place finish showed that.”
After finishing fifth in his heat, Tommy, in his first race of the season, made it into the feature by finishing second in the consi. He started 18th on the grid.
“Tommy had a good run going as he had moved from 18th to 10th in the feature, but something happened to the motor. The motor had a lot of laps on it and we think it was a head gasket,” concluded David.
After getting everything back together BMS will take one car, with McIntosh behind the wheel, to Boyd’s Speedway this Saturday night for the Southern Nationals Bonus Race.
