MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 11) Coming off their Hangover Win at 411 Motor Speedway Donald  and the Blount Motorsports team scored a second place finish in Ice Bowl XXV at Talladega Short Track Sunday afternoon.

Donald qualified third fastest out of the 49 entries, won the third heat and started third on the grid. A first lap shuffle sent him back to fifth and he was able to work his way back to second.

“We had a really good car and Donald did a great job. When he got shuffled to fifth he drove back to second passing Hiett, Rozell and Thomas on the way,” said David. “Naturally we would have liked to have won the race, but the Ice Bowl is the Ice Bowl and coming out of there with a whole race car and a second is not that bad really.”

Dirt Late Model racing during the day, especially with over 200 cars, can be brutal. Talladega Short Track has been known to rubber up during the Ice Bowl Weekend, but this year not so much.

“The track was racey and you could run side-by-side which was a pleasant surprise,” said Donald who has no love for race tracks that rubber up. “Car wise we were close to even with Brannon (winner David Brannon). It came down to lapped traffic and he did what he needed to do. All in all it was not a bad day.”

The Blount Motorsport Team will now concentrate and getting the new Rocket XR1 ready to go for the Lucas Oil Superbowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway in early February.
