MARYVILLE, Tenn. (May 2) The six-week virus related layoff didn’t seem to take the edge off what has been a strong start for Donald  as he posted a second place finish in the Thursday night Schaeffer’s Oil Invitational at Tri-County Race Track.

After coming back from a disappointing start of the season at the Winter Nationals at East Bay, Donald has scored four top fives including a win in the last four races. With the second at Tri-County the hot start continued.

If it weren’t for a caution that negated a pass of Shane Clanton for the lead another win would have been added to the list.

“We had the better car, but it took so long for the track to clean up we just came up a little short,” said David. “We had him (Clanton) passed for the lead, but a caution put us back in second and that is where we finished.”

The new Rocket, Vic Hill and McIntosh combination continues to click.

“The new car and engine combination has been working real well and suits Donald. We did some testing and found some things that worked well especially when we applied them to the new car,” continued Bryant. “We are pleased and just hope with all that is going on we will be able to get some races in.”

With states starting to open up from the coronavirus lock down, barring a backset, there is some hope for some kind of season.

After replacing some damaged body parts and the scavenger oil line the team will load up their open trailer and head for the Dirt Showdown at Boyd’s Speedway tonight.

“I can image all the rumors that started flying when we pulled into Tri-County with a pick up pulling an open trailer, but we are getting the big rig worked on and painted,” concluded Bryant with a chuckle.
