MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Jul. 13) With the Ultimate Super Late Model Series running back-to-back events over the weekend at Smoky Mountain Speedway and 411 Motor Speedway the Blount Motorsports team was looking forward to two races close to home.
On Friday night at Smoky Mountain both Donald and Tommy were racing. Donald had one of his better races on the third mile. He started 10th, passed his way to third and was racing for second with Casey Roberts when the checkered flag flew.
“That is the best Donald has been here at Smoky Mountain and we are please with the run and the progress we are making on the big corner tracks,” said David Bryant. “We were able to get the car more to Donald’s liking for the race and we tried a couple of things after the race that made the car even better. We are looking forward to coming back here during the Southern Nationals.”
Tommy’s night started out with a wall test during qualifying. They were able to piece the car back together and he made the race through the heats. Starting 22nd he worked his way up to mid pack and the engine started smoking so he pulled into the pits and was scored 14th in the final rundown.
“When I qualified I was on the high side and got into the wall,” said Tommy. “The whole crew pitched in and put the car back together. It was good enough to make the race and I was able to move up some, but when the engine started smoking a little it was time to call it a night.”
The Saturday night Ultimate event at 411 Motor Speedway was cancelled do to rain.
