MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Jun 13) At the drop of the green flag Donald rocketed from his seventh starting spot to lead the Carolina Clash event at Volunteer Speedway in just 12 laps. Three laps latter a plume of smoke bellowed from the front of Donald’s Rocket and a power steering problem sent him to the pits and a 20th place finish.
The combination of a really good race car, a heavy right foot and a good racing surface made it look like a winning night for Donald, but a part failure ended it all.
“When I saw the smoke I knew something happened to the power steering. We didn’t fool with it at the track and will find out if a rock hit one of the lines or what happened to it this morning,” said David in a call from the shop Monday morning. “The car was good and Donald really had it going, but these things happen. We will fix the power steering, clean it up and get ready to go again at Smoky Mountain Saturday night.”
This next Saturday night both Donald and Tommy will be in action at Smoky Mountain Speedway for the Ultimate Big Daddy 500.
