MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 21) Blount Motorsports and driver Tommy Kerr announced their racing plans for January and February of the 2008 season this past Saturday at their shops in Maryville, Tenn.
The early season racing includes seven nights of racing at the SuperBowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway from Monday January 28 through February 2nd. After that they plan to take a week at the shop before getting back in action at the DIRT car Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida. The Florida dates are from Monday February 11 through Saturday February 16.
“We feel that by getting some racing behind us early in the season we will be in better shape when the season really gets going,” said Kerr. “We will be competing against some of the best in the business in both Georgia and Florida. This will give us a chance to see where we are and what we need to do to improve our program.”
The team will be debuting a new GW Performance Rocket chassis in Florida at Volusia Speedway Park.
“At this point we are not sure what our full schedule for 2008 will be. We are looking at possibly running one of two regional series or running the bigger shows at tracks within a 150 mile radius of the shop,” said team owner Larry Garner. “The way the schedules fall this year we don’t have to make a final decision until March 22. The racing in January and February, especially with the new chassis, will allow us to have more information to make that decision in March.”
