MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 22) The first half of the Southern Nationals Series is in the books and between the weather and a red-hot Jonathan Davenport, Billy Ogle Jr. and Blount Motorsports find that they have a lot of work to do in the remaining five races.
At East Alabama Speedway for race number three, Ogle set fast time, started fourth in the Dash and finished second to start on the outside front row.
“We had a great car. We were the fast qualifier, started on the outside front row, took the lead on the fourth lap and was cruising,” said David Bryant. “Billy (Ogle) got into some lapped traffic late, went high and got a wheel on the rubber. Davenport was able to pounce and take the top spot. We finished second.”
The next night at Swainsboro Speedway they qualified a disappointing 17th. They picked up four spots in their heat and started 13th in the feature. There they picked up four more spots for a ninth place finish.
“I feel like I let the team down with that qualifying run. It put us way behind and the track wasn’t like last year when you could really race on it so we didn’t do well,” commented Ogle. “The new car and engine package is great and I am looking forward to the next five races that are on tracks that I like and do well on.
Davenport and Madden are tough and we have Vic Hill right on our rear bumper, but I am looking forward to a strong finish.”
The next two races at Screven and Rome Speedways were rained out. After a one day break the action will resume at North Georgia Speedway on Tuesday night.
