MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 7) Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports Team had a mixed Fourth of July weekend. They had an eighth place finish at Wartburg Speedway, finished fourteenth in the Lucas event at Volunteer Speedway and the Lucas event at Tazewell Speedway was rained out.

At Wartburg on Friday night the accelerator pedal broke in qualifying and Kerr ended up 16th quick. Starting way back in the first heat he raced to a second place finish that gave him a fourth place starting position. A flat while running fourth sent him to the pits and the rear of the field. He was able to move back up through the pack to an eighth place finish.

“We had a good car and with all the things that happened to us we had a pretty good night,” said Kerr. “Without the problems with the accelerator and the flat tire we would have had a much better finish.”

On Saturday night Kerr qualified the Cast Stone/Geo Services sponsored Custom Race Engines powered GW Performance Rocket 8th and finished fourth in the fourth heat. Which put the car 16th on the grid and Kerr drove to a 14th place finish.

“We were just a bit off on the set up and we pretty much were not going anywhere,” concluded Kerr.

The team’s plans for the up coming weekend are up in the air. They will be running all 10 events of Ray Cook’s Southern Nationals that starts on Monday July 13 and concludes on Saturday July 25 so they might take the weekend to get ready and spend some time with their families.

Blount Motorsports enjoys sponsorship from Blount Excavating, Stowers Machinery Corp., Kelso, Turner Industrial Supply, GEOServices, Cast Stone, Wine and Spirits Cellar, Insurance Partners, Explosive Specialists and the newest addition Arnold Trucking of Tellico Plains Tenn.

They race a GW Performance Rocket chassis with power from Custom Race Engines, shocks from Öhlins, chassis and suspension components from TWM, seats from Butlerbilt and tires from Hoosier Racing Tires.
