MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 10) Tommy Kerr and the BMS Racing Team raced in the three special events at area tracks over the Fourth of July weekend. On Thursday night they finished ninth at Wartburg Speedway, seventh at Volunteer Speedway on Saturday and suspension failure at Tazewell Speedway on Sunday put them 19th on the final rundown.

Although they would have liked to have won all three races or at least had higher finishes in the events Kerr and the team were not unhappy with their efforts.

“Our finishes might not show it, but we had a pretty good weekend,” said Tommy. “We ran well all three nights against some of the top dirt Late Model drivers in the country. If a couple of things had gone a little differently we were in a position to take advantage of them.”

At Wartburg they were running in the top five when the right rear tire gave up. On Saturday night at Volunteer they went from starting seventeenth to a seventh place finish and picked up the Lucky Seven award. At Tazewell they were running sixth in the feature when the left upper A-Arm broke ending their race and relegating them to a 19th place finish.

“The most important part of the weekend was new crew chief Gary Winger getting into the mix. We learned a lot about each other and are getting used to working with each other. Gary has all the tools and will make the team, including the driver, better,” concluded Tommy.

This weekend the team will take Saturday and Sunday off to work on a new car. On Monday and Tuesday they will run two of Ray Cook’s Southern National races. The next weekend they will run two Southern All Star races and if things go well the last five Southern National races.

“Right now is our busy time at work and that has a lot to do with how much we race,” said car owner Larry Garner. “We are really exited to have new crew chief Gary (Winger) on board and we plan to race as much as possible.”
