MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Mar. 9) For Donald, Tommy and the Blount Motorsports Team Saturday night’s WoO Tennessee Tip Off at Smoky Mountain Speedway was an interesting one as Donald was two tenths faster than the 50 other cars in qualifying and two tenths slower the rest of the time they were on the track.

Donald qualified with a time of 17.537 in the second group with Mike Marlar topping the first group with a time 17.757.

“Actually, that qualifying lap was one of those fast or crash deals. I didn’t crash and we were two tenths faster than the field,” said Donald. “The rest of the time we were on the track, practice, heat and last chance race we were two tenths slower.”

Starting on the pole of the fourth heat with Jonathan Davenport on the outside, Davenport rolled the start and Donald thought he had jumped, but the officials didn’t agree and waved the green flag.  He finished fifth in the race.

“Donald thought Davenport had jumped, but the green flag came out and both Davenport and Owens got by,” said David. “Can’t blame Donald or the officials it was just one of those deals where we came out on the short end. We went with a harder tire in the  last chance race and that didn’t work out either.”

Tommy’s night wasn’t any better. He didn’t qualify well and started seventh in the second heat.

“I got way behind qualifying and never could catch up,” said Tommy. “Wasn’t a real fun night with the only good thing was I didn’t tear up anything.

A week from Friday the dirt will be flying at Bristol Motor Speedway and Donald and the Boys will be there.  On Friday March 19 there will be a 10k to win race and Saturday night will pay $50,000.
