MARYVILLE, Tenn. (May 6) With the weather finally cooperating Donald and the Blount Motorsports team were headed to Cleveland and Tazewell Speedway’s for the OMG Spring Nationals double header hoping to get back on track. A seventh place finish at Cleveland and a mechanically induced 15th place at Tazewell didn’t get it done.

On Friday night after starting 15th Donald fell back to 18th and was able to stay out of trouble, work traffic and pass his way to a seventh place finish.

“We just got behind on our qualifying. We had a good race car and were the only ones out there that was doing much passing, but you can’t start that far back,” said David.

On Saturday night when Donald set fast time in qualifying things looked a whole lot better as the worst they could do was finish fourth in the dash and start fourth on the grid. They drew four in the dash and ran fourth when the engines started to smoke.

The motor had a lot of laps on it and was scheduled to go to Vic Hill’s for freshening so instead of risking loosing the motor they went to the backup car. Going to the backup car moved them from starting fourth to starting dead last in the field. Donald passed 10 cars in the first seven laps, but when the water pressure light came on he pulled into the pits.

“At Tazewell the driver is awfully busy and really doesn’t have time to pay a lot of attention to the gauges. When the water pressure light came on Donald was unable to determine what was going on and instead of risking the engine he pulled it into the pits. It turned out to be the sending unit, but there was no way to know that.

The cars, driver and team are all clicking and all we need is to get on a little bit of a roll,” concluded David.

The next race is the Third Annual Mountain Outlaw 50 sanctioned by the World of Outlaws at Smoky Mountain Speedway this Saturday night.
