MARYVILLE, Tenn. (June 23) Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports Racing Team had a good weekend with tires playing a bigger roll than usual. Their fourth place finish on Friday night and twelfth place finish on Saturday night all came down to tires. On Friday night Tommy qualified the Stowers Cat sponsored, Custom Engines powered Rocket chassis third for the Advance Thunder feature at Crossville Speedway. He ran fourth in the dash and started fourth in the feature. He ran in the top all night, but tires that were a tad too hard relegated him to a fourth place finish. On Saturday night at Volunteer he was running with the leaders when the right rear tire gave up on lap 20. He ended up twelfth in the final rundown.“Tires always play an important roll and this weekend they were more important than usual,” said Kerr. “Friday night our tires were just a little harder than the three in front of us. Saturday night it was like hitting the wall when the right rear gave up.”All in all Kerr and the team was pleased with the car.“The car keeps getting better and better,” continued Kerr. “We have Gary Winger of GW Performance coming on board as crew chief . When you add Gary to what we already have it gets real exciting.”Blount Motorsports enjoys sponsorship from Blount Excavating, Stowers Machinery Corp., Kelso, Turner Industrial Supply, GEOServices, Cast Stone, Wine and Spirits Cellar, Insurance Partners, Explosive Specialists and Murphy’s Bobcat.
