MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 23) In the first race after Blount Motorsports and driver Billy Ogle Jr. parted ways Donald McIntosh got behind the wheel and finished fifth, one place behind team member Tommy Kerr in the SAS King of the Mountain Fall Classic at Smoky Mountain Speedway.
Working together McIntosh and the BMS team were able to get the car better every time it was on the track.
“After hot laps and qualifying it was apparent that we needed to make some wholesale changes on the car so it would better suit Donald. After figuring out where we wanted to go we made a bunch of changes. Although we didn’t go as far as we should have for the feature we were able to give him a decent car and he did a good job with it,” said David Bryant. “He made good decisions during the race, stayed out of trouble and had a good finish.”
“We were not all that good in qualifying, but David, B.J. and I sat down and talked about it. We were better in the heat race and had a good car in the feature,” said Donald. “I have no idea where this is going, but I really appreciate the chance that Blount Motorsports is giving me. I am looking forward to being in the car for the next couple of weeks.”
Tommy won his heat, started 10th and finished fourth.
“Once we got the car tightened up a bit we were good,” said Tommy. “The car was better than a fourth place car, but starting tenth and having only one caution killed me.”
For the next two weekends Donald will be in the car at East Alabama, Tri-County Race Track, Dixie and Rome.
“With his (Donald) experience at Dixie and Rome we wanted to give him a couple more races in the car before we went there. This doesn’t mean we have settled on him as our driver, but the way things fell into place it just made sense to have him in the car for the next couple of weekends.”
