MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 25) Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports team snapped a winless streak that dated back to October of last year by dominating the Southern National event at Volunteer Speedway Friday night.Kerr started the Stowers Cat/Blount Excavating entry on the outside front row of the 53 lap event. He took the lead on the first lap and never looked back as he led every lap to take the win.“We really needed this,” grinned Kerr after the race. “We have had good cars and been so close only to have something strange, including driver brain fade, happen to keep us from winning a race. Tonight it was flawless.”For Kerr, who had won a number of $5,000 to win events over the years, the night’s payoff of $5,300 was his career best. “I knew it was just a matter of time before we won one of these and got back on track,” said Team Owner Larry Garner. “We have had our share of problems and that is all part of racing, but it is sure nice to have things go the way they should. Tommy, Gary, B.J. BoBo and everyone that has worked so hard deserve all the credit.”Tonight the team will head for Tazewell Speedway for the final event of Ray Cook’s 10 race Summer Nationals. Blount Motorsports enjoys sponsorship from Blount Excavating, Stowers Machinery Corp., Kelso, Turner Industrial Supply, GEOServices, Cast Stone, Wine and Spirits Cellar, Insurance Partners, Explosive Specialists and Murphy’s Bobcat. Tommy races a GW Performance Rocket and or a Rayburn race car, power from Custom Race Engines, Öhlins Shocks, chassis and suspension components from TWM and seats from Butlerbilt.
