MARYVILLE, Tenn. (June 11) Tommy Kerr and the BMS Racing Team made their career first visit to Rome Speedway pay off as they recorded a third place finish and padded their point lead in the Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series event.

As the laps wound down the last thing Tommy, who was running second, wanted to see was a late caution, but that is exactly what he got, a late race caution. A worn out right rear tire made for a lack luster restart and enabled Tim Day to take second.

“That last caution with a couple laps to go was the last thing we needed. By that time the right rear was history and I knew I would have my hands full trying to keep Day behind me,” commented Tommy. “Considering it was the first time we had ever been to Rome we are pleased with the night’s work.”

Tommy qualified second quick, finished second in the dash and started fourth on the grid. During the 50-lap feature he ran as high as second and never lower than fourth. The combination of his third place finish and all of his closest rivals in the points finishing no higher than fifth resulted in a little more breathing room in the series point battle.

After racing on eight consecutive weekends the Thunder Series will take a couple weeks off before racing at Crossville Speedway on June 30. Tommy and the BMS team will be racing special events in the area.
