Maryville, Tenn. (Sept. 30) Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports team headed to Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on Thursday for the 20th Annual Magnolia State 100. A combination of rain making it a Sunday race and getting into the event by winning the Last Chance Dash made for a long weekend.

Out of the 69 Super Late Models that qualified for the $20,009 to win event, Kerr found himself right in the middle when qualified 35th. Starting 12th in the fourth heat he would finish fifth. By virtue of winning the Last Chance Dash we would start the 100 lap main event in 25th. When the smoke had cleared and the checkered flag fell the Stowers Cat/Explosives Specialists entry crossed the line 12th,

“This was the first time I had raced in that area and I learned a lot,” grinned Kerr. “We could have and should have done a lot better, but all things considered it was not a bad weekend. A long weekend, but not a bad one.”

Kerr went on to say that he was impressed with how the folks at Columbus Speedway handled the rain and how they worked to run the show even with the big purse.

“They had a big purse and a great bunch of cars and fans, but the rain really messed things up,” continued Kerr. “They (the promoters) hung right in there and we finally raced and they paid the full purse. We look forward to going back and racing there again.”
