MARYVILLE, Tenn. (May 4) After a number of discouraging outings Donald McIntosh and the Blount Motorsport Team had a better weekend posting solid second and third place finishes. The two top five finishes moved them into second in the Spring Nationals point chase.
Friday night Donald started third and finished second with a strong run at Crossville Speedway.
“It was the new car, and we seem to be getting a better idea of how to make it run better,” said David. “When the track rubbered up there wasn’t a lot of passing and although I thought we were as good as Dale’s (McDowell) car there was no way we were going to pass him clean.”
On Saturday night at Clarksville they started fifth and finished third.
“We passed our way to third and might have had a second-place finish, but it took about 20-laps to get by Dale and into third. It was a good race between them but it used up the car and the laps a bit,’ concluded David.
“We sure needed a decent weekend. This was the first time I felt a little comfortable in the new car. It still does some weird stuff, but it felt better. It was good to competitive and back in the hunt,” said Donald. “Making progress even if it is slow progress will get you going.”
For the third straight weekend it will be a pair of Schaeffer’s Spring National races. Friday night at Wythe Raceway and on Saturday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway.
